Yes, a new blog. Just what I need, eh? But I like the blogs. It helps me remember things. As I get older, my memory is getting worse and worse. If nothing else, this is a diary of my life. The things I do.
This new blog is dedicated to sewing and sewing machines, etc. I have been sewing since I was a little girl on an array of different machines. Never really seriously though.
That all changed at the beginning of the pandemic. My best machine, An Elna, broke down and was not repairable. So sad. I made many things with that machine over the years.
So my husband knew a guy that owned a sewing machine store. He sold Janome and Brother so I got a Janome Skyline S6 at that time, so that was 2020. My husband's company was deemed necessary so it was business as usual. I made many masks at that time that we gave away to whoever wanted or needed one or two.
Fast forward to 2024 and I found a really cool Sewing Centre on a random backroad in the village of Conn, Ontario. I almost drove into the ditch looking at it (it's on a curve in the road.) The place is called Creekbank Sewing Centre and no, there's no website. You can get on a mailing list for their newsletter though.
The Mennonite lady that I dealt with in there was an amazing sales person because not only did I not know I wanted a giant Bernina machine, but that I'd get the one that has the big embroidery module as well.
So HUGE learning curve. I got 30 hours of free lessons on the machine, which I absolutely attended every minute of. I might not remember everything I learned but at least it put thoughts in my head.
Around the time I got the Janome, I also got a Juki Serger. Four threads, works great, is easy to thread. Couldn't ask for any more than that.
Another machine I recently acquired is a Singer 27-4, it's one of the treadle models. The one I got was built in 1904. It needed a belt and the Front Side Plate (goes over the bobbin).
The belts I got from amazon for next to nothing, the front side plate I ordered from eBay. Waiting on delivery of that part.
Here's a few. pictures of the machines. There are other machines, but those are for another day.
Each of these machines, and the few others I have, deserve their own blog posts. In time, that will happen. For now, this is an introduction to the machines I use.
